Charles Barkley for President

In 2008, speaking to a rather rattled Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Barkley said, "Every time I hear the word 'conservative,' it makes me sick to my stomach, because they're really just fake Christians, as I call them. That's all they are. ... I think they want to be judge and jury. Like, I'm for gay marriage. It's none of my business if gay people want to get married. I'm pro-choice. And I think these Christians, first of all, they're not supposed to judge other people. But they're the most hypocritical judge of people we have in the country. And it bugs the hell out of me. They act like they're Christians. They're not forgiving at all."

On MLK day, Barkley also didn't stop there. He said "We have discrimination against Hispanic people in this country and we need to answer to that."

We have a thing going on now, people discriminating against homosexuality in this country. I love the homosexuality people. God bless the gay people. They are great people."

Where Your Tax Dollars Go

The biggest chunk — some 20.4%, -- goes to Social Security. Defense comes in a close second. Our average family would pay $1,410.59 to fund the military — fully 20.2% of the total they send to Uncle Sam.

How about Homeland Security and Law Enforcement, which includes everything from the Coast Guard and the FBI to the U.S. Courts and immigration system? Just 2.4% of our average family's tax bill — only$167.95 — goes to pay for those.

As for foreign aid? They lay out just $39.60 a year. While many people think cutting foreign aid would solve our fiscal woes, it's less than 1% of what Uncle Sam spends.

$38 BILLION=$352 MILLION ??

Republicans had promised their tea party supporters they'd cut the budget --$100 billion was the original pledge, reduced to $61 billion in the House budget passed in February. So they were at pains to present $38 billion as a good first step.

But an analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that the deal, which passed Congress yesterday, will cut spending for the year by just $352 million !!! —less than 1 percent of the much-touted $38 billion figure. In fact, when money for emergency military action is factored in, spending may actually go up this year. How can that be? The CBO said that $13-$18 billion of the "cuts" represented money that only existed on paper, in the form of IOUs to government agencies, and wasn't likely to be spent in the near future, or perhaps ever. Other cuts went for projects that wouldn't have paid out for several years—so the money would eventually have been spent, just not this year.
